« Haitian Compas Fest 2k10 – It’s a Wrap ! Now Make Room for 2k11 »
May 25, 2010 – Bayfront Park – Downtown Miami – The Haitian Compas Festival was realized on May 15, 2010 at Bayfront Park in the heart of Downtown Miami. In its twelve edition the Haitian Compas Festival regulars did not disappoint as the support was once again astonishing. “For years we have been proud to host the festival in Miami, and when it’s over we are always grateful that the public continues to be loyal to us time and time again,” says Rodney Noel, Founder of the Haitian Compas Festival.
Commemorating Haitian Flag Day, this year the Haitian Compas Festival and the groups performing took a few moments to remember those who were directly affected by the 7.0 January 21, 2010 Earthquake in Haiti. One of the festival’s major contributors, advisors and close personal friend, Joubert Charles of Nouvel Jenerasyon, lost his life on January 12th and homage was paid to him as his picture was displayed on each staff shirt. “Joubert was a staple in this community and he truly helped build Compas as a whole – this was the first year without him and that was difficult,” shares Mr. Noel.
With several last minute, unexpected changes, Noel & Cecibon, Productions attempted to make the best of the festival. Groups like Kreyol La, T-Vice, Djakout Mizik, CaRiMi, Barikad Crew, Nu Look, Disip, Jahnesta, Black Dada and Zekle kept the crowds roaring and helped keep the Haitian Compas Festival on the top of the charts as one of the biggest Haitian shows in the United States.
The Haitian Compas Festival has a reputation for setting standards and its reputation keeps it as one of the largest Haitian festivals in the United States, this year there are factors that led to a few issues, but with a stellar committee and spectacular team the Haitian Compas Festival will continue to forge ahead and grow from the adversities presented this year. Among them it is important to point out the issue of counterfeit ticketing. “Never in the history of the festival have we been hit so hard by counterfeit tickets, over 3000 tickets were duplicated and resold throughout South Florida. We are warning other party promoters and festival producers to be cautious of this big problem as we have already started taking precautions for all future Noel & Cecibon Productions events and next year’s festival,” explained Jean Michel Cerenord, Co-Founder of the Haitian Compas Festival.
The Haitian Compas Festival prides itself in elevating the standards in the community and this year we are left to ponder, but can guarantee that the 13th edition of the Haitian Compas Festival will once again return to the quality of show that the public, the media and the musicians deserve.
We are proud to say that the Haitian Compas Festival remains an institution charged with tradition, therefore as we prepare for 2k11, we are comforted in knowing that you too are preparing to experience something bigger and better for the 13th Annual Haitian Compas Festival. see photos http://caraibesfm.com/photo/thumbnails.php?album=87 |
